Mal De Mer Longboard Riders Club was founded 18 years ago (1986) over a few ales with mates at the local. The lads decided to meet on the 1st Sunday of each month on a social basis to have a bit of fun and do what they love best, Mal riding. On many occasions the fitness levels were extremely low, and usually supporting hangovers they hit the surf.

At a BBQ after one of the initial comp days, the lads decided the club needs an appropriate name - something a little bit different. In passing, one of the members wives (who just happens to be French) said they looked like a bunch of sea sick sailors. Hence the club was named Mal De Mer - French for seasickness.

A meeting was held in October 1992 and those present passed a special motion to incorporate the club under the NSW Associations Incorporation Act 1981.

The clubs reputation, not only on the Mid North Coast, but the far reaches of the Australian coastline makes us a great family attraction. We invite any one with an interest in Longboard riding to come and see for yourself, not only the spirit of surfing competition, but also a fun day out.

The club meets the 1st Sunday of each month at Rainbow Beach Bonny Hills for a 7:30 am start.
